Porter Ridge Receives Award from Red Cross
On September 5th, Jillian Smyth from the Red Cross, presented Principal Sam Basden with an award from the American Red Cross. Principal Basden accepted the award on the behalf of the Porter Ridge High School community. PRHS collected more pints of blood than any other school in Union County during the last school year. The PRHS Interact Club is the sponsoring, on-campus agency that leads our two blood drives each year.
Porter Ridge High School took top honors for collecting 279 units of life-saving blood. "Our Interact Club leads this initiative," said Porter Ridge High School Principal Sam Basden. "We do it twice a year. We probably have 50 student volunteers work when we do the blood drive. I'm very proud that the students and staff at Porter Ridge are so eager to give back to the community."
Collectively, over half of the pints of blood collected in Union County were the result of donations at drives held at Union County Public Schools. Porter Ridge’s first blood drive of the year will take place on Friday, October 25th.
