Rock Rest students benefit from summer reading celebration
Rock Rest Elementary School teachers, staff and students ended the summer with a celebration of reading.
They loaded up a bus up with crafts, games, music and, of course, books on Aug. 8, 2013, to visit two neighborhoods that are home to many Rock Rest students.
These dedicated educators and staff members reunited to discuss the great books they had read over the summer, and the last few they hoped to finish before the final count for the Rock Rest school-wide Boys-vs.-Girls Reading Challenge.
On this special day, music played while students played hula-hoops and basketball, made one-of-a-kind bookmarks, and got to pick out books to take home and keep in their very own personal library.
“There was even time for teachers and parents to read with our fabulous, book-loving students,” said Heather Barry, a Rock Rest Elementary ESL teacher.
Students and teachers left the day feeling lots of excitement for the coming school year and all the books they will be able to share together.
