Pirates Sailing Through the First Three Weeks
Faculty and students at Porter Ridge Elementary School have successfully completed the first half of the first grading period of the 2013-2014 school year! With three weeks of school under their belts, students seem to be excited and ready for more.
“We’ve been learning a lot in third grade math,” said student Kailen Kennedy (Mrs. Curry’s class). When asked about third grade activities Kailen remarked that she has enjoyed the positive rewards for good behavior. “For every 5 above the lines we get, our name is put on a Pirate BINGO board and on Monday we have the chance to have our names drawn for prizes. We can even win as a class, too!”
Fifth grader Brooke Atwell (Mr. Nicoletti’s class) stated, “My favorite part about starting the new year is just being in fifth grade. When we did Social Studies and the Three Branches, I liked working on that project.”
“It’s nice [at Porter Ridge]. The teachers are nice and so are the kids,” replied new Pirate Christiana McIntosh (fifth grader, Ms. Gaio’s class). “My favorite part is being in music and PE. Coach Pucek really helps people if they need help with something and Mrs. Burrows does cool warm-ups and teaches you step-by-step.”
Students aren’t the only ones excited to start the new year. Teachers at Porter Ridge are also looking forward to what the year will bring. “We’re kicking off a great school year,” exclaimed second grade teacher Ms. Easterling. “I am a strong believer in how my attitude plays a huge part in my success. I have started the school year off with a positive attitude and it has made a huge impact in not only my students’ overall outlook in school but also my fellow teachers as well. I work with such an amazing and encouraging team of teachers that we all make a point to continue to lift each other up each and every day.”
It is very clear that the pirates at Porter Ridge are looking forward to their best year yet in the 2013-2014 school year!
