Choir to Sing in Carnegie Hall

The Sun Valley HS Honor Choir has been selected by audition to perform in March 2014 with the National Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City. An audition CD was sent in in August, and Mrs. Mitchell was called on September 10 and invited to bring twelve singers to perform.

These singers will learn a specific set of music ahead of time, and go to New York to rehearse with outstanding singers from all over the country under the direction of internationally known choir director, Dr. Andre' Thomas.  Dr. Thomas is a personal friend of Mrs. Mitchell, and is a Professor of Music and Principal Director of the Florida State University Choirs. As part of the trip, the students will attend a Broadway musical, tour Radio City Music Hall, visit an art museum, and see various sights around the city, including the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial.

"This is the experience of a lifetime," Mrs. Mitchell said. "The trip alone will be fun and educational, but to work with this director and sing in Carnegie Hall...not many do that.  I think the students will have an experience they won't soon forget."
