This week's Maverick Message...loaded with congratulations and reminders!
Good Evening, Mavericks. This is Lisa Justice, Assistant Principal of Marvin Ridge High School, with your weekly announcements.
Congratulations abound this week, beginning with our Fine Arts students. Ms. Lutz and the Women’s Ensemble were the featured entertainment recently at a gala event honoring the 5th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute in Charlotte. Please see the wonderful story on our website and in the attached Maverick Message Newsletter. Your Marching Mavericks played host on Saturday afternoon to bands from all ten high schools in Union County for the annual Band Preview. A little rain did not deter great music or a great crowd. Special thanks to all band volunteers for your support and a successful event!
All Maverick Athletes were honored this week when MRHS was awarded an Ejection Free Certificate at the annual NCHSAA meeting on Monday, September 16. This honor is shared by only a few high schools in our area and is a testament to the caliber and character of our student athletes and coaches. We have home matches for volleyball, tennis, soccer, and football this week, so please come out and support your Mavs in action!
Tomorrow, Mr. Conner will attend a luncheon and recognition ceremony in Durham honoring our Cohort Graduation Rate for the third year in a row. Marvin Ridge High School belongs to the top two in the state for schools our size. Congratulations to our teachers, staff, and students for their continued academic success.
We are happy to share that the calendar feature has returned to our website, and we encourage all parents and students to keep up with important dates and events through this link. Club meetings are among the main listings on the calendar, and there are a ton this week! You can also find club announcements on our website under the “Student” tab. We are making our best effort to keep you informed of all things Maverick through our website, newsletter, Facebook and Twitter (“Like” or follow us today)!
This week will end with two important events that have become a part of our Maverick culture. Mission Possible II, our fundraiser for student life and campus organizations, will conclude on Thursday, September 26. Please see the links on the website, in the announcement scroll or under the Parents and Community tab, to pledge your support today.
Finally, our Community Read Day will take place in classes on Friday, September 27. Information and book titles have been available on our website and the newsletter; students and teachers will discuss the global topics brought up through their common focus. The aim of this program is to empower our students with a knowledge of global issues and a respect for diversity that will help them be successful citizens in a changing society. We look forward to this event each year as it allows our whole community to support our motto, “Passport to the World.”
Thank you for all that you do to support Marvin Ridge High School. We are One Team on One Mission…have a great night!
