Fun Run and Spirit Week!
Students showed their love and support for Poplin Elementary this past week during Spirit Week. Each day students expressed themselves with the following fun activities. Monday was Poplin Spirit day and students wore spirit wear or school colors. Tuesday was crazy sock day. Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday, Thursday was Hat day, and Friday was Fun Run day.
The Fun Run Day was a culminating activity to celebrate a month-long fundraising campaign for the 2013-2014 school year. At the beginning of September Poplin staff and parents acted out a skit encouraging students to raise money to support PTA and learning activities for the school. Students were asked to try to raise $50 per child during the month of September. As of Friday, September 27, students raised over $18,000! Since this is the main fundraiser for the school year, the Poplin PTA wanted to celebrate the students’ success with a healthy living goal, a Fun Run for the whole school.
All students, staff, and many Poplin families participated in the Fun Run on Friday, September 27 during the school day. Students came outside as a grade level during their special classes time and walked or ran laps on the track. As students completed laps, parents and staff marked off the laps on their Fun Run t-shirt. The PTA sponsored a deejay who got the students moving with fun music and shout outs encouraging the students and staff to keep going. The PTA also provided water and fresh fruit to all participants. “It was amazing,” said Robin Denton, a parent of a third-grader and also Vice President for the Poplin PTA. “We have a bunch of fantastic students who ran like champions today!”
