Parkwood takes part in "It Can Wait" day
On Thursday September 19, 2013 Parkwood took part in a National It Can Wait Day. On this day students across the country pledged not to text and drive. Parkwood's Student Council sponsored the event.
During lunches student gathered in the Student Center to pledge. Many students and faculty members were seen signing the banner, and each person who signed received an "It Can Wait" sticker. One student, senior Paloma Salinas, said, “I pledged because I have witnessed many people texting and driving, and this has caused them to swerve and almost run off the side of the road!”
A big supporter of this day, Parkwood's bookkeeper and Lead Driver's Education teacher Sara Humphries, suggested that Student Council sponsor the event. When asked about it, she commented, "I suggested taking part in the campaign to make students more aware of how deadly texting and drive can be."
The pledge banner which contains over 300 signatures and hangs in the Student Center reminds students not to text and drive.
