A "New York Times" bestseller novelist comes to Kensington!!

Last week, Author A.J. Hartley came to Kensington Elementary School to talk to us about his books. Before he started talking about his books, he told the fourth grade classes about himself. I learned that he was from West England. He was first inspired to write when he read, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. He started writing when he was seventeen years old. It took him twenty years to publish his first book and release it. That meant twenty years of disappointment every time they said no.
Next, he started talking about how he wrote his current set of books. First, he typed a little bit, then he would stop for a couple of days. After he finished typing the whole book, he would edit it. Then he would let his son read it to see how he reacted to the story. Finally, he would sent it to the publishers and they would tell him if he could sell it or not. Now he has his first trilogy of books! The first one is called Darwen Arkwright and the Peregrine Pact.

Written by: Aaron Bowman and Ruby Grace Williams, grade 4 students in Mrs. Sinople's classroom.
