"Kidprenuers" Math in the Real World
The fifth grade is learning how math impacts our daily lives. Students are learning the importance of math in real life situations. They are creating their own businesses. They are creating business proposals, creating a marketing plan and even planning a grand opening party.
This year long project began with a guest speaker. Brianna Sameit, in Mrs. Gutt's class, has an aunt that recently (with in the last month) launched a new business, Bumbalooza. Bumbalooza is a company that specializes in gluten-free baking mixes.
She and her partner came to the fifth grade to talk about all of the steps involved in starting a business. Students were able to sample some of the gluten free, nut free baked goods that came from the mixes that Bumbalooza sells.
They learned how math is used to determine how they predict the amount they will need to order, what will sell best and how to advertise their products. Students learned that they too could be entreprenuers or "Kidprenuers". The fifth graders were able to ask questions about this new start-up company. This got the fifth graders excited about their businesses and the information will help them with their projects!
