Reaching Goals at Waxhaw Elementary

Amy Thao and Isaac Rodriguez-Salinas show off the results of their hard work.

Waxhaw Elementary has several students whose families speak a language other than English at home.  Some of these students attend ESL classes.  In ESL classes, students work on all four English language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  Students are engaged in activities that apply content and academic language from the Common Core State Standards.

Every year in February, Waxhaw’s LEP (Limited English Proficient) students take a Language Proficiency Test.  Congratulations to Amy Thao and Isaac Rodriquez Salinas for doing well on the Spring 2013 Access Test..  These two students are 5th graders in Ms. Sullivan’s class. Amy and Isaac are now recognized as fluent English speakers.   To celebrate their accomplishments, Mrs. Warren (English as a Second Language teacher) presented them with a Chick-fil-A miniature cow and a free meal that were donated by the Chick-fil-A in Wesley Chapel.   Congratulations to these two students for working hard and reaching goals!
