3rd Graders Remember
Earlier in the semester, we wanted students to get a good sense of the importance of September 11th. To demonstrate the difficulty of climbing the towers, we had students replicate the climb.
Students walked ten steps for every flight that a hero took to save a life. The total number of stories was 110. With 10 steps for each of those 110 flights, we took a total of 1,100 steps in remembrance of all the brave people that day.
While taking steps, students were accompanied by Lee Greenwood’s song, "God Bless the USA". Mrs. Barnes and Ms. Anderson came out to support the third grade by taking pictures and playing the music for us.
After the event, we watched a Brain Pop video to understand the significance of the day and how it changed our country. Students got to appreciate our history and understand the responsibility of our first responders.
