Lynn Gleason named MRMS Teacher of the Year
Recently named Marvin Ridge Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Gleason was one of six teachers nominated by her peers to represent Marvin Ridge as Teacher of the Year. After interviewing all the nominees, a panel selected Lynn Gleason for the Teacher of the Year title. “In the relatively brief amount of time that I’ve served Marvin Ridge Middle School alongside Mrs. Gleason, it’s already been made obvious to me that she is an educator of the highest caliber," said Principal Dr. Jay Jones.
“Knowing that the work I do every day is important is what motivates me,” said 6th grade Language Arts teacher Lynn Gleason. Sometimes the importance of the work of teachers is clearly evident in test scores and classroom learning but other times it is shown in less conspicuous ways. "When we spark a student’s interest or get them curious about something new it creates an energy that fuels us as teachers," said Lynn.
Lynn Gleason has been teaching full time for over 12 years and has taught at almost every grade level from kindergarten through 6th grade. For the last six years she has taught Language Arts at Marvin Ridge Middle School and says that some of the most memorable teaching moments occur when students realize that she truly cares about them and their learning. Marvin Ridge Middle School principal, Dr. Jay Jones has seen this and said, "Mrs. Gleason has the unique ability to mesh extremely well with just about anyone. What’s most impressive to me is her demeanor with students and the rapport that she has established with them. When you combine such wonderful relationship skills with her strong content knowledge, we’re all blessed with a truly distinguished teacher.”
Congratulations are also in order for the nine other teachers that were nominated by their peers for Teacher of the Year: Dianne Hooker, 7th grade math; Angelique Ridley, behavior focus; Don Koback, 6th grade math; Sydney Fosmoe, 6th grade science; Chris Morris, physical education; Stephanie Haring, 7th grade language arts; Michael Boyes, 6th grade science; Carolyn Boatner, 8th grade language arts; and Lisa Ko, 7th grade math.
