Safety House Visits New Salem
“Stop”, “Drop” and “Roll” can be heard echoing in the classrooms around New Salem Elementary. Kindergarten and first grade students have been learning that the month of October is set aside as Fire Prevention Month.
Students received a visit from New Salem Volunteer Fire Department where they were instructed on the many jobs of a firefighter and rescue team. They got to see the fire truck and all of the tools firefighters use to help people in danger.
The Fire House from the Monroe Fire Department also was present as part of the visit. Students were ushered inside of the model of a house and instructed in numerous safety measures that they can use in their own homes. They learned each family needs to have a fire plan for escaping a burning house.
We wish to thank the New Salem and Monroe Fire Departments for making this a fun and exciting day of learning for students in kindergarten and first grade. A special thanks to New Salem parent and volunteer firefighter John Durr for organizing this event.
