Ms. Lindsey Arant, MRHS Teacher of the Year for 2013-2014
In her own words: This is my 9th year of teaching. I've been an English teacher and the Freshmen Class Advisor at MRHS since it opened 7 years ago. Before that I was at Parkwood High School. I am a graduate of Monroe High School. I am a NC Teaching Fellow and graduated with collegiate and departmental honors from UNCW where I defended an undergraduate thesis on using graphic novels and comic books in the classroom.
I'm a NBCT and the 1:1 Model Teacher. I'm IB trained. I'm the founder and organizer of the MRHS Community Read program. I collaborated with the county curriculum coordinator and other English teachers from the county to create county-wide benchmarks, pilot the Common Core Curriculum, and create resources for all teachers. I created and maintain a professional Google Site and collaborated with another teacher to create the county Google Site for English teachers.
I love teaching and learning and always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoy working with other stake-holders to help students be best prepared for whatever they face and accomplish in life. Working at MRHS has been a blessing because it has allowed me to work with freshmen to help them make the important transition to high school and junior and senior IB students as they transition to college. Our students, parents, and staff value education and support teachers.
I live with my husband David and my four year old daughter Abby in Fort Mill, SC. I have to thank my husband, David Arant, who does more than his share at home so that I can put my energy into helping as many students as I can.
