FHHS NJROTC Takes First Place

Forest Hills' NJROTC cadets competed in every event of the UNCC Drill Meet in October and earned first place overall.

FHHS NJROTC participated in all drill events at the UNCC AFROTC drill meet on October 19, 2013, and came away with first place overall. Over 20 cadets attended the Drill Meet and had a great time competing against the other schools. There were three NAVY JROTC’s, one ARMY JROTC and 12 AIR FORCE JROTC units competing in the Drill Competition. While we were there we showed great sportsmanship, discipline and enthusiasm.

The Commanders of teams were: C/LCDR Micah Shelton, C/LT Christopher Smith, C/Petty Officer Second Class Elxis Crump, C/Seaman Recruit Kayla Helms, C/Petty Officer First Class David Starnes, C/Chief Petty Officer Andrew Ruple, and C/Seaman Recruit Kelsey Morrison. Master Gunnery Sergeant Marone’s leadership and coaching kept the teams focused and moving forward throughout the day’s challenges, encouraging all to maintain their focus and discipline.

At the completion of the events all teams gathered and prepared for awards. The FHHS NJROTC team received 2nd place in Individual Armed Drill (C/LT Smith) and 2nd place in Element Regulation Unarmed commanded by C/Senior Chief Petty Officer Andrew Clark. The highlight of the event was the 1st Place Overall Championship awarded to the FHHS NJROTC! WHOOP WHOOP! The hard work and dedication by the entire team to participate in every event was the deciding factor in winning the overall championship. Congratulations for the first drill competition first lace in many many years.
