Fifth Grade Students Learn About Google Drive
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students have been recipients of the UCPS 1:1 netbook initiative where each student will have access to their assigned netbook throughout the school day to best facilitate learning and instruction.
Mrs. Chisum, Instructional Technology Facilitator, has been spending time with Prospect’s fifth grade students to show them how to use their Google Drive account. They are learning the power of merging creativity, collaboration, and learning with technology tools. Mrs. Chisum said, “This model creates a student-centered learning environment that customizes learning for each student, based on their individual interests and abilities…A ‘my size fits me’ approach.”
Mrs. Chisum has been going into the fifth grade classrooms to show students how to present what they are learning in Science and Social Studies using Google Drawings, Shared Folders, and digital storytelling using Photostory3. Courtney L. likes to work with Mrs. Chisum because, “it is fun to take pictures and post them on your Google Drawing.”
Their next step is for each student to create a digital showcase, a Google Site, so that each fifth grade student can publish their best work. As the school year continues, the students and teachers are looking forward to implementing technology throughout their curriculum.
