Sandy Ridge Solves Area and Perimeter
Mrs. MacEwen's class used inquiry based learning skills to solve a real world mathematical problem involving area and perimeter. They watched Spaghetti and Meatballs for All, a story about a couple trying to fit 32 people at tables in their home for dinner. The class paired up to find all the possible rectangular shapes and sizes able to seat 32 people. As they worked to solve the problem recording the area and perimeter of each option they began to see a pattern evolve. The students hit on all 8 math practices in Common Core and were able to solve this real world problem!
