Mentor Club Makes a Positive Impact

The Weddington Mentor Club was recently formed this fall in partnership with the Union County Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Monroe. Weddington High School students have devoted their time after school to volunteer every week.

Everyday four to six Weddington students spend a couple of hours at Monroe Middle School volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club Program. Students spend time tutoring, playing games, and best of all being friends with the Boys and Girls Club participants.

Weddington High School students have made such an impact on the children’s lives by being great positive role models. “The impact we have made is far above anything I could have ever imagined,” said club member Caroline Horne.

Weddington students have seen improvement in the way the children do their homework and their attitude toward one another. It is wonderful to hear the Boys and Girls Club children ask how soon the volunteers will be coming back to be with them.

The director of the Boys and Girls Club Chris Brown said, “The club has operated more efficiently with the assistance of the Weddington Mentor Club. The kids have great role models to look up to.”

The Weddington Mentor Club hopes to continue making a positive impact in the kids’ lives by consistently volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club.
