School Bus Evacuation Drills
Riding a school bus can be exciting, cool and fun for children going to and from school. Although riding a school bus can be fun, accidents can sometimes happen. Statistics show in the United States, 23 million students take the bus to and from school each day. When it comes to getting children safely to and from school, there is always room for improvement.
That is why Weddington Elementary students and bus operators practiced a school bus evacuation drill. The purpose of the drill was to have the bus operator and each student know exactly what to do in case of an emergency.
The students learn the proper procedures for safely evacuating a school bus in the event of an emergency. They learn how to operate the emergency window, to exit the bus from the rear door and to stand ten feet away from the school bus.
Weddington Elementary students were reminded to always listen to the bus operator, remain calm in case of an emergency and to walk to a safe place together.
The safety of children is extremely important. School bus evacuation and practice drills are an essential part of safe transportation.
