Mrs. Thomas Wins a Grant!

Mrs. Thomas is surprised in her classroom.

Mrs. Thomas applied for a grant through the Union County Education Foundation.  She was surprised in her classroom with balloons and a giant check stating she won the grant! Her grant is called Math Manners.

Math Manners will begin with students playing math games in class and learning the steps to using productive talk moves.  Productive talk moves are restating, repeating, explaining, agreeing, disagreeing, adding on and waiting.  As students play the games, they will use manipulatives to problem solve, reason and explain their thinking.

Next, students will also use a variety of materials and technology to create their own math game boards, tools and manipulatives.  Students will play the games with other students and continue to practice the productive talk moves.  The culminating activity will be a Math Manners Fun Night when students will share their games with their family.
