Free College Application Week Begins November 18

North Carolina Free College Application Week begins Monday, November 18 at 7:00 a.m. During the week, seniors have the opportunity to apply to designated colleges for free through CFNC.org. Students at Piedmont will be given the opportunity during several classes to apply to over 90 colleges in North Carolina and have their application fee waived. The free opportunity ends on Friday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m.

North Carolina College Application Week is a statewide college access initiative designed to provide every North Carolina graduating senior the opportunity to apply to college online through CFNC.org for free. The free application week is funded by the U.S. Department of Education College Access Challenge Grant. Included in the list of participating colleges are all 58 NC Community Colleges, over 30 private colleges, and the following University of North Carolina universities: Elizabeth City State, Fayetteville State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, and Winston-Salem State. A complete list of participating colleges is available here.

According to senior guidance counselor Stacey Butera, “This is a great opportunity for seniors to apply to college for free and not only earn scholarship money but also save significantly on college application fees. If every senior submitted one free application, as a class, they would save an average of $13,000!” In 2012, over 29,000 students took advantage of the free application week and submitted over 69,000 college applications!
