Almost 60 cadets from Piedmont High School AFJROTC NC-955 Drill Team competed on Saturday, November 9th against four other Union County Schools at the Warrior and Warbirds Airshow. The drill meet and awards presentations were sponsored by the Union County Veterans and events included Element and Flight drills in Armed and Unarmed Regulation competitions. In addition, Piedmont JROTC provided three exhibition teams, which were not judged for the overall winner. The other Union County Schools who competed were Monroe High School, Parkwood High School, Sun Valley High School, and Forest Hills High School. Parkwood finished first, with Sun Valley in second and Piedmont in third place in the overall standings for regulation drill.
The Veterans Committee also presented Patriot Awards, an award for professionalism, community service and excellence, to the top cadet from each school’s AFJROTC program. As Chief Holmes stated, "Piedmont (NC-955) Cadets truly enjoy competing against their counterparts and then staying to watch the Warrior and Warbirds Airshow. Union County Veterans do a great job each year providing a superb drill meet venue at the airshow for the JROTC units in Union County!"
