Chibchas Spanish Club goes to CPCC
The Chibchas Spanish Club went to see the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet from Florida.
They were on their traditional tour around the US, and we went to see their performance in Charlotte, NC. The even took place at the Peace Auditorium at Central Piedmont Community College.
The ballet performed traditional dances from places in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
The dances were very intricate and very interesting. The dancers wore outfits with glitter and some with feathers.
In between the dances, they played instruments and sang Hispanic songs interacting with the audience.
During one performance with drums, performers from Argentina demonstrated something called “boleadoras”.
This was a weapon that had ropes with wood and metal balls on the end used to catch animals. The performers asked to audience to “Esooo” as they wielded the weapon. They were very good.
We also saw a performer from Cali, Columbia who was the World Salsa Champion.
After the show we enjoyed some Mexican cuisine at La Unica in Monroe. We had a great time and can’t wait to do it again.
