CHS Takes Part in BizEd

Area business leaders and professionals speak to CHS students as part of BizEd, an initiative by the Union County Education Foundation.

For the second year, CHS was excited to take part in BizEd, an initiative by the Union County Education Foundation to connect area businesses and business leaders directly to our schools and classrooms. The event is held annually in conjunction with American Education Week and took place November 19, 2013 in six Union County High Schools. BizEd was designed to promote continued education and to help students learn about local/area business and industry, job opportunities and educational requirements for various occupations. Twelve guests spoke to classes at CHS.

CTE teacher Leah Ross said, “My students were very interested in hearing from Shane Fraser of SNA Today. He made social networking relevant to the students' future careers and was very interactive.”

“Our experience was really good. My speaker was Donna Adam, Senior Manager of Agency Retail for the Kellogg Company. She was great for my students because she was all about Marketing and that was the class she spoke to. In fact, we just finished a section on brands and she was able to discuss the many brands found within the Kellogg's brand family. She also gave out free products to several of the students and Rice Krispie treats to all of them - they loved that!” said CTE teacher Steve Lyons.

Principal Kim Warr said, “I am incredibly grateful for the time our speakers took out of their busy schedules to visit our school and speak to our students. Students hearing directly from professionals furthers their interests in career fields and gives business leaders an opportunity to share with students traits they are looking for in future employees."

CHS would like to thank the following guests who spoke with classes: Alicia Campbell, Facility Director CMC Waxhaw; Amy Hildebrand, Assistant VP of BB&T; Donna Adam, Senior Manager of Sales Execution Kellogg Company; Jason Smith, Plant Manager Hanson Brick; Kyle Jones, Chiropractor Carolina's Chiropractic and Spinal Rehabilitation; Lloyd Spencer, Hannover Life Reassurance Company; Rob Bennett, FranFinders, LLC; Shane Fraser, Owner SNA Today; Jennifer Sengbusch, Carolina's Chiropractic and Spinal Rehabilitation; Robert Smith, Special Agent for the DEA; Ed McFadden, Electrical Engineer; and Mitch Sells, Sun Trust Bank.
