Hemby Bridge ASP Conducts Food Drive
Hemby Bridge After School Program collected canned food items from November 7 through November 22 to donate to Stephenson Prebyterian Church's Food Pantry. The five groups of children collected over 200 items to send to those in need with Group 1 (Kindergarten--First Grade) collecting the most. The food was delivered on Monday, November 25 so that it could be included in distribution to families by Thanksgiving. Each year Hemby Bridge ASP participates in a food drive with "From Jesus with Love" and "The Common Cupboard" as past recipients. As the children collect the canned goods, the teachers discuss with them how they are helping people in need in the community. According to Sheila Pierce, program coordinator, "We explain to them that sometimes money has to go to provide shelter, and that people can go hungry. We want the children to care about others' needs, especially one that is so basic." We are proud of the generosity of the children, families and staff of Hemby Bridge After School as they reach out to help others.
