FHHS Band Director Receives Honor
Miss Tracy Humphries, Forest Hills High School Band Director for the last 15 years, received the Award of Excellence for the South Central District Bandmasters Association for 2013. Only six such awards are given statewide, and since the recipient is chosen by other band directors, it is considered especially meaningful.
Every year, each of the six band districts in the state of North Carolina select a representative who has demonstrated achievement and service to that district to be the recipient of the Award of Excellence. This is considered by many to be one of the highest honors bestowed upon a band director by our state. In January, the South Central District Bandmasters Association chose Tracy Humphries as its representative. The South Central District includes Mecklenburg and nine surrounding counties. All six Award of Excellence recipients were recognized at the North Carolina Professional Development Conference in November.
Forest Hills High principal, Dr. Kevin Plue, expressed the school's feelings about Miss Humphries' accomplishment. "We are very proud that Miss Humphries has been honored with such a prestigious award.," he said. "She continually extends her influence well beyond the FHHS band community, and this award is in recognition of all of this extra work. This has brought great exposure to our band program and our students."
Of the award, Miss Humphries feels a great deal of gratitude and pride. "We have so many incredible directors in this district who are very deserving of this distinction.," she said. "I am truly humbled that my colleagues would select me to represent the award this year."
