Bright Ideas Grant Winners

Pictured: Henry Chandler, Assistant Principal, Counselors Rena McGee-Helms and Kerri Mosley

The week before Thanksgiving Kerri Mosley and Rena McGee-Helms, Piedmont Middle Counselors, received a big reason to be thankful. Union Power representatives arrived at school to announce that the counselors proposed grant to help fund the school KAT (Keeping it All Together) Club had been selected as one of sixteen awarded grants from seventy submitted applications. The KAT Club meets four mornings a week from 7:30-8:10 with counselors, parent volunteers and eighth grade mentors available to help students learn and maintain a system of organization for their school materials. Agendas are also checked for complete and accurate entries for all school assignments. Any extra time is used for homework help and peer tutoring.
Mosley and McGee-Helms were awarded their entire requested amount of $875.00 to purchase a supply cart, binders, pocket dividers, pencil pouches and other supplies to meet student needs. Both ladies are firm believers that if students are taught what to do and how to do it that they will have skills that will serve them well for a lifetime.
