Caring Coins project for the Philippines raises over $1200
Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines was an exceptionally powerful storm that devastated portions of the Philippines on November 8th. It was the deadliest storm on record. At least 5, 759 people have been killed and the cost and time to rebuild will be significant. The infrastructure is so damaged that it will be a monumental accomplishment to have the electricity again in the most damaged areas before Christmas.
The schools in the Piedmont responded to the need by collecting coins for the American Red Cross relief effort in the Philippines. Students for a week and a half brought their coins into the school to see what it would add up to. Well it added up to a significant amount. On December 5th principals from the Piedmont district handed a check to Shelia Crunkleton of the American Red cross in the amount of $1,282.63.
We are grateful to the students and parents in our community who have stepped forward once again in this outreach project to help in the relief effort.
