Science in Action
First grade recently concluded a unit on Earth Materials. Students learned about the properties of Earth materials, including rocks, minerals, soils, and water. As part of the unit, students learned how these earth materials are useful and also learned to distinguish between natural and manmade.
Having students to see science in actions helps them to understand the concepts more fully. To conclude the unit and celebrate all that was learned several experiments were conducted. Students learned about the strength of an egg by placing a man-made cement block on top and seeing how much weight it could hold. In another experiment a geyser which is a natural water source was simulated using manmade products. The students enjoyed seeing science in action!
