Poplin Elementary School receives International School recognition
Poplin Elementary School was recently honored the designation of “International School” by Union County Public Schools at a principals’ meeting in December 2013. Out of the 53 UCPS schools, Poplin is one of 19 to receive this honor. The status of “International School” is the system’s highest recognition in the area of Globalization and global education.
All of the work for this process was completed during the 2012-2013 school year during which teachers documented their work in global education via electronic portfolios and submitted it at the end of the school year. Now Poplin proudly displays a plaque and banner in the front lobby of the school.
The Poplin teachers on the Globalization Committee for the 2012-2013 school year pictured here are: Heather Gasiecki (2nd grade), AnneMarie Bretz (1st grade), Caroline Gopun (1st grade and VIF Teacher), Kimberly Parker (3rd grade), Scott Broome (Principal), Beth Medlin, Co-Chair, (Media Coordinator), Jennie Taylor (5th grade), Elizabeth Clarke (4th grade), Shannon Helms (Art), Tracy Vargas (2nd grade), and Michelle Ruby, Co-Chair (not pictured - 1st grade and Global Teacher).
