JobReady Partnership gets $10,000 grant from UTC Aerospace
The JobReady Partnership received a $10,000 grant from UTC Aerospace Systems recently to be used toward STEM education.
UTC Aerospace General Manager Jeff Lambert presented the check during a recent JobReady Partnership meeting, noting that UTC wanted to support STEM education.
“We’re looking to support programs such as STEM and the education that it provides,” Lambert said. “We try to align our giving to advance STEM education, supporting vibrant communities and creating sustainable cities. We’re proud to be part of North Carolina.”
USE STEM Today is an acronym: USE (Union County Students Engaging) in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.)
JobReady Partnership Job Broker Linda Smith said USE Stem Today includes a Middle School Career Day, Girls in Engineering Day, and Business and Industry Collaborative Educational Partnerships (BICEPS) – each with specific emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math.
The initiative also includes provision for a New Century Scholars scholarship, allowing a student to receive a two-year tuition scholarship to South Piedmont Community College for studies in a STEM field.
USE STEM Today is a JobReady Partnership initiative that began two years ago in hopes of strengthening participation in the STEM field following concerns about America being unable to compete in a global economy.
Its efforts are to promote career awareness and develop STEM disciplines through local industry sectors.
