Skyping with an author!!!
Thanks to the generosity of a grant from the Union County Education Foundation, Kensington Elementary students in Mrs. Kuhn’s fourth grade AIG reading class had the opportunity to Skype with New York Times best-selling author Wendy Mass.
The Skype session concluded a novel study of Every Soul A Star. Students were excited to meet Ms. Mass and ask in-depth questions about the crafting of her book. They learned about the inspiration for the characters, the ideas used to develop the plot, and the research behind the scientific components of the text. In addition, students gained valuable insights into the perseverance needed in the writing process. Ms. Mass explained how and why voracious reading, personal experiences, and strong observational skills are the foundational pieces for successful writing.
Following the Skype session, each student received a personalized autographed copy of another book by Ms. Mass. The students are excited to embark on their next reading adventure and are grateful to have learned so much from this incredible author!
