National Honor Society Sponsors Heifer International Fundraiser
Before winter break, the members of National Honor Society put together a fundraiser for Heifer International, a charity organization dedicated to providing livestock to impoverished areas worldwide. Porter Ridge High School raised a grand total of $1850, equating to three cows, a fish farm, and multiple flocks of chickens.
Not only does Heifer International provide the livestock, but also the charity gives the community a chance to learn and engage in a teaching program that supplies information on how to sustainably grow and trade the animals provided. The animals range from camels to ducklings, varying in both size and amount.
Each third block class was given the challenge to raise the most money for Heifer International, aiming to save lives and win a pizza or ice cream party. The winning class, Mrs. Cloer’s English Literature class, won the pizza party with $375.26. The second place class, Mrs. Robinson’s Algebra II class, won the ice cream class with $212.58. Not only did impoverished communities benefit from this fundraiser, but bonds were created as third block classes came together in hopes to help others.
