PTSO Launches Student Academic Recognition Program
The Cougar Council, the PTSO at Central Academy, launched a new student recognition program this year. Each semester teachers will select one student from each course they teach and that student will be invited to a recognition breakfast. The first breakfast was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.
PTSO members created a nomination form which teachers filled out. Invitations were delivered to all the students selected.
Parents donated granola bars, breakfast bars, drinks and Chick-fil-a gift cards. Chick-fil-a minis were purchased to give each student attending.
Even with the two hour delay, the event went off without a hitch. Students arrived at the gym and were checked in and given a gold star sticker with a blue ribbon to signify that they were "academic all-stars!"
Parent volunteers congratulated the students for being selected and told the students how proud they were of them.
"Everything went very well for our first time," said Deb Christensen, PTSO vice-president and CATA school library media coordinator. "The students really seemed to enjoy the event and it is a great way for the PTSO to expand the ways we help students."
Seniors who were graduating at the end of the first semester were also invited to get some breakfast food since they will miss the PTSO senior breakfast that will take place sometime second semester.
The PTSO would like to thank everyone who donated and helped make this a special event.
