Science Takes a Spin on the Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Mrs. Reich's class investigates how friction plays an important role in NASCAR racing.

On January 9, 3rd grade students paid a visit to Charlotte Motor Speedway to investigate the role physical science plays in NASCAR racing.

Students were asked to record the data of several investigations that included the affect of friction on the cars, the affect of the incline of the track on the speed of the cars and the importance of balancing the wheels on a race car in order to get optimal performance. Students also learned how the pit crew plays a very important role in helping drivers win a race!

After investigations were completed, students and teachers were able to take an exciting tour of the track!
