Cans, Coins & Cuddles
Poplin Elementary Students showed how much they care about others by participating in Cans, Coins, & Cuddles during the month of December. Students brought in canned food for a local food pantry, coins to raise money to purchase animals through Heifer International, and stuffed animals to send to students in the Philippines. Students raised $430.56!
This project was completed by the Poplin Elementary Service club, which is made up of fifth-grade students and sponsored by fifth-grade teachers, Jennie Taylor and Kim Peck. Since 2011, Poplin Elementary has participated in multiple exchange projects with international schools in the Philippines because of Caroline Gopun, who is a first-grade teacher and Poplin’s VIF teacher from the Philippines. Mrs. Gopun helped Poplin establish Memorandum of Agreements with a primary school and a college of teacher education. Through Mrs. Gopun’s connections with the Philippines, the stuffed animals will go to children who were affected by the recent typhoon in November.
