A New Maverick Joins the Team and Teams Compete Successfully

Good Evening, Mavericks! This is Lisa Justice, Assistant Principal of Marvin Ridge High School, with your weekly announcements.

We were happy to share with you the announcement of our new Head Football Coach, Brad Hoover, this week. There will be a meet and greet with Coach Hoover tomorrow night at 6:30 in the school auditorium. Congratulations to our Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Team for winning their conference championship this week as well. They are looking forward to regionals in Huntersville this coming weekend, and the state meet right around the corner. Our Marching Mavericks are still on the move and participated in All-District Clinic this weekend, represented by 14 members who won their spots through a highly-competitive and grueling audition in early January. Congratulations also to our Winter Guard, who finished second out of 62 teams at their first competition of the season at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill. Way to go, Mavs!

Parents and students, just a reminder that report cards will be issued this week. Students who took courses which required a NC Common Exam may have an INC at this time. The district has patiently awaited these scores from NCDPI, but they may not be here in time to print report cards. If this is the case, we will enter the final grades as soon as they arrive, and print new report cards for your student. We regret any inconvenience as this is a statewide issue.

Also, please be reminded that schedule changes for second semester must be requested by Wednesday, January 29. Reasons for a schedule change are printed in the attached Maverick Message newsletter. Please be aware that we have limited space for changes, and we simply cannot honor all requests. Our guidance staff works diligently on behalf of all students during this time, so we appreciate your support, patience, and professionalism when requesting a change for your student.

This coming week will be a busy one for our athletes and athletic department. Please see the schedule in the attached newsletter, and be sure to come out and support your Mavs in Action. We are excited that this Friday, January 31, five exchange students and one teacher from our sister-school in Nanjing, China, will arrive for a visit and stay with host families. We have many events planned for them and can’t wait to show them our Maverick Spirit!
Finally, please mark your calendars for Monday, February 3 at 6:30 as our PTSO will host our Open House for second semester. There will be a brief initial meeting in the auditorium, and then parents will have a chance to “walk” your student’s schedule and meet teachers. Please bring a copy of the student’s schedule with you when you come!

Thank you for your continued support of Marvin Ridge High School where we are One Team on One Mission. Our mission statement has been recently posted to our announcement scroll, and will appear in the pages of our newsletter. Please review it at your convenience, and have a great night!
