Sun Valley Elementary Partners with the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross was excited to see so many community members show up for its blood drive at Sun Valley Elementary School on Friday, January 31. Twenty-nine participants from the community donated blood. Faculty and staff members were provided release time to donate.
SVES PE teacher Cole Hurst said, “I believe that it is important for everyone to stick together. Having opportunities like our blood drive helps our school come together more as a community.”
Principal Dr. Terri Cooper said, “The American Red Cross is always there when we need them to be. It is exciting to see so many of our families step up and donate to this worthy cause.”
As a school-sponsored event, it was exciting to see so many parents and teacher assistants helping to check in volunteers and provide refreshments.
Assistant Principal Dwight Thompson helped with much of the organization of the event as he oversaw PTO volunteers and ensured facilities were ready for this grand event. Thompson said, “Today’s event was a big success. This is the first time our school has provided this type of leadership, and it is exciting to see everything come together. This will certainly be a yearly community outreach service project at our school.”
Sun Valley Elementary School collected 22 pints of blood during this event. To learn more about how you can donate or about The American Red Cross please click HERE.
