Piedmont Middle Lady Panthers Bring Home Title

If you were looking for exciting games of basketball this season, this group of girls brought just that! A year filled with overtime wins, buzzer beaters, and half court shots, they did it all. The ladies finished the regular season 12-2 losing only to a very energized East Union team and the 2 year defending champs, the Weddington Wildcats. “Going into the tournament the ladies were highly motivated,” stated Coach Goodman, “These girls played as a team. I told them we would have to be noble minded athletes and could not focus on the petty problems. They did just that! It did not matter how the refs called the game or what the other team did, they were going to win.”
The girls were familiar with this path. In the 2012/13 season a lot of these girls watched as their team was defeated in the championship game. “I think that game fueled this year’s team to improve their game. They heard a lot of people saying that it would be tough to get there again after losing 6 players that got majority of playing time. That fueled them to work in the off season to get back.” They did not just get back to that game, but they got back and won the Championship. The Lady Panthers defeated Cuthbertson in the 1st round, Marvin Ridge (overtime win) in the 2nd round, and Weddington in the Championship (42-37) The future looks bright for these girls and we are all excited to see what they can do in future years here at Piedmont!
