Rebel Clef: Parkwood's all-girls a cappella group
Parkwood's newest addition to the music program, Rebel Clef, has made some great strides in their short time as a group. This group of fourteen girls was brought together by Choral Director Alexandra Sims, who serves as the staff advisor.
When asked how Rebel Clef started, Sims responded, "I started Rebel Clef because I loved being in the Sapphires women's a cappella group at UNCG when I was in college. I am very proud of how good Rebel Clef sounds already and how well the group works together. They are great girls and we have lots of fun on Thursday afternoons!"
Since its inception in early October 2013, Rebel Clef has been quite active. From learning the in's and out's of a cappella music, to performing, the group has made some terrific headway even in their infancy. Thursday afternoon rehearsals allowed the girls to learn their vocal parts, learn how to blend together as a group, and audition for solos within numbers. Senior Rebecca Mulligan commented, "Rebel Clef has not only helped me as an aspiring musician, but has also opened my eyes to new aspects of music."
Rebel Clef has had two public performances. Their debut and biggest performance, which the group members took the better part of first semester preparing for, was the combined band and chorus concert on December 19th. During this performance, Rebel Clef performed three Christmas themed numbers: "All My Bells Are Ringing" by Lenka, "Winter Song" by Sarah Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey.
Since then, Rebel Clef has performed the national anthem at the spring Homecoming game and hopes to perform it again.
