Drumming Up The Fun!!
The New Salem Music program has seen some great improvements this year. With the addition of a class set of World Music Drums, we have expanded our study of cultural music from around the world. This project is focused on developing musical skills through basic percussion techniques that anyone can quickly learn. The nationally acclaimed curriculum - written exclusively for World Music Drumming – will also help teach character traits that are an important building block of our musicianship and the broader school environment. Each lesson is designed to build on the next in sequence, while keeping the students engaged through active participation in learning about the instruments and musical traditions of Africa, Asia, South America, and many others. With funding support from our school, Dr. Bulla – the UCPS Elementary Superintendent, and a grant from the Union County Education Foundation, we were able to add a variety of over 28 drums and accessory percussion instruments. Please come by for our performances during the year so that you can SEE and HEAR the great music we are making!
