"Get a Life"

Students work on creating a resume for their chosen job field.

A seventh grade team at Marvin Ridge Middle recently completed the “Get a Life Project”. The “Get a Life Project” taught students how to write a resume, cover letter and letter of recommendation, along with other skills for getting a job. Students started the project by finding an interesting career and completed research about the chosen career.  They then wrote a resume along with a cover letter and letter of recommendation for a friend.

At the end of the project students got to experience what it was like to interview for a job by participating in a simulated interview experience. The students learned what to wear for an interview, how to act and what types of questions might be asked. Prior to the interview, students had to sign up for a time and day. The interviews went on for three days, with two teachers participating daily and many, many parent volunteers. This project was selected to be presented at the NCTIES state conference student showcase. Four students will be traveling to Raleigh in March to present their experiences to students, teachers, and administrators from across the state.
