Winter Olympics Fractions

Mrs. Rogers' fourth-grade class shows off their Olympic medal display.

We all have been watching the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Students at Antioch Elementary shared that global interest. They 4th graders were learning about fractions. The got to research the amount of gold, silver, and bronze medals that each country has received so far. They turned those amounts into fractions and they even simplified the amount when they could!

They learned about which events the countries scored a medal in and what the flags looked like. They created a Sochi medal display with the results. They ranked the countries based on the amount of medals that they have won. They learned that the U.S.A is not in first place, but they believe that will change! Go USA!
