East Union 6th grader has a surprise visitor

East Union 6th grader, Drekius Tanner, got a wonderful suprise when his father visited him during his Language Arts class on February 21. The reason the visit was so special is because Drekius's father, Hospital Corpsman Jermerick Rushing, has been deployed with the United States Marines for the past seven months.

Mr. Rushing, who is a Petty Officer 3rd Class with the Navy, was deployed on August 7, 2013 with the US Marines. He traveled to Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, Mt. Fuji and Toyko during the time he was deployed. He returned home this week, where he is stationed at Camp Leujeune.

Petty Officer Rushing and his wife, Richelle, wanted to surprise Drekius with his father's return, so they made plans to visit him at school. Drekius was busy at work in his classroom when principal Dr. Hoover arrived to tell him he had a special visitor. When Mr. Rushing came to the door, Drekius leapt out of his seat and ran to his dad for a long over-due hug. It was a very touching moment, and the entire class applauded.

Welcome home, HM3 (FMF) Rushing, and thank you for serving our country!
