Black History Month

February is Black History Month. A time to learn about many different African Americans in our country who helped change the way we live today.

Mrs. Roberts’ and Mrs. Wright’s class have been studying a wide variety of famous people: Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Mae Jemison, Barack Obama, Thurgood Marshall, Hank Aaron, and Jackie Robinson.

Also, did you know: P.B. Downing invented the postal letter box, Robert Flemming, Jr. invented the guitar, Tom J. Marshal invented the cell phone, G.T. Sampson invented the clothes dryer, Granville T. Woods invented the roller coaster, Garrett Morgan invented the traffic signal, John L. Love invented the pencil sharpener, Alexander Miles invented the elevator, Henry Sampson invented the fire extinguisher, John Burr invented the lawn mower, Paul E. Williams invented the helicopter, and Lonnie Johnson invented the super soaker!

Just to name a few of the many contributions made by African Americans!
