East Students Receive New School Supplies From Classroom Central

Third graders Nigel Nixon, Kemari Laney, Adamaris Dominguez-Urbano and Layla Stokes are all smiles as representatives from Classroom Central and Two Men and A Truck deliver school supplies to their classroom.

On Tuesday , February 11, 2014, students at East Elementary had a doubly exciting day. Not only was snow expected to fall and there would be an early dismissal due to the inclement weather, but the group Classroom Central visited the school in the morning and gave away new school supplies to all the students.

Through a grant called “Backpack Basics”, Classroom Central was able to provide each student with their own personal school supplies. They partnered with the company Two Men and a Truck to deliver the supplies. As the supplies were delivered to each classroom and the teachers unpacked the boxes, students were heard to exclaim things like, “This is all for me? Thank you!” and “Wow, I get my own pencil sharpener?”.

Having the supplies delivered in the middle of the school year was a blessing, since many items needed by the students are worn out or have begun to run out by February. School counselor Jennifer Lodge said, “This is the first time that Classroom Central brought this grant opportunity into Union County! It was such a privilege and honor to be a part of this, and it was worth it to see the smiles on all the students’ faces!”

Classroom Central also used the visit to East Elementary as an opportunity to film a professional, promotional video to be viewed all over the Charlotte area that explains the mission of Classroom Central. Several students and faculty members at East had the chance to “star” in the video. Thank you, Classroom Central for a great day on February 11th. The snow was cool but the new school supplies were even cooler!
