Winter Sports Recap

CATA athletes had a lot of success in winter sports this year. In swimming, the CATA women’s swim team captured the school’s first women’s conference championship on Friday, January 17th at Pfeiffer University. Sarah Everhart finished 4th in the 100 Butterfly at the 1A/2A State Swim meet, making her the first state placer ever for a CATA swimmer. Sarah also finished 9th in the 100 Backstroke.

In Indoor Track Elijah Inuwa captured the state championship in the 1000 meter event at the 1A/2A Indoor Track Meet in Winston Salem on Feb. 8th. Elijah also finished 5th in the 3200 Meter Event.

Jackson Price, Sergio Gomez and Josh Lemon all won their weight classes at the Rocky River Conference Wrestling Tournament. Dyaln Vanderschal, Ian Rogers, and Alex Miles all finished 2nd at the Rocky River Conference Tournament. Jackson, Sergio, and Josh all finished in the top four at regionals and advanced to the state tournament. Jackson Price placed 3rd at states after winning two dramatic matches on the last day of the event.

The Men’s Basketball team posted it’s most successful season ever for a CATA basketball team finishing the season 16-10. The team also won the school’s 1st ever playoff game with a 58-53 victory over Winston-Salem Carver in the 1st round of the NCHSAA Playoffs.
