American Girl Event
Girls in grades K-5 were invited to bring an adult to the first ever American Girl Event at Rocky River Elementary School. The event was held in the Media Center on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Mrs. Shulman, the media coordinator, hosted the event and was excited to present the American Girl book series, magazine, and website to the girls.
Students were invited to bring their own American Girl doll or any other doll to this event. Some of the girls wore outfits that matched their dolls! Refreshments of cookies, lemonade, and sweet tea were served.
The night began with Mrs. Shulman introducing the history behind the American Girl company as well as some interesting facts. For example, more than 143 million American Girl series books have been sold since 1986. Then Mrs. Shulman also presented the American Girl magazine which is available for checkout in the media center. The magazine includes short stories, comics, crafts, and much more. Mrs. Shulman also informed the group that by visiting www.americangirl.com the girls can not only shop for dolls and accessories but also play educational games. Lastly, Mrs. Shulman introduced several of the characters from the book series. The American Girls Addy, Kirsten, Josefina, and Kit were highlighted in this portion of the presentation.
After the presentation the girls were provided with crafting materials to make masks for themselves, their adult, and of course their doll. After cutting a template, girls were provided with glue, confetti, and popsicle sticks to create their masks. The end result were sparkly and beautiful!
The girls and their adults had a wonderful time and Mrs. Shulman is looking to hold similar events in the future. Keep reading!
