Oh….The Places You’ll GO!
In honor of Read Across America Week, BHESA’s 2nd graders utilized Dr. Seuss books to create a performance.
The performance featured 5 of the beloved Dr. Seuss books, each incorporated into a different variation of interpretative dance, music or theatrical show. Our amazing Essentials teachers were instrumental in assisting with the art, dance, movement, acting, music and props. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Thing 1 and Thing 2, also known as Miss Slowiaczek and Ms. Stewart, welcomed everyone and started us off with a smile. The children listened to Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Then, students showed off their knowledge of acting out onomatopoeia through dance, movement and sound to Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? Duck Feet showcased choral reading and animals coming to life with dramatic voices and dance movements to match the story. Horton Hears a Who showcased an adapted play in which the children used interpretations of movement and actions, and colorful masks made in art class to share the story. Our last production was a musical interpretation of Gerald McBoing-Boing. It featured actors that portrayed the main characters, as well as a large variety of musical instruments and the entire book was sung by the class with the help of Mr. Wagner. The last act definitely stole the show, as the audience joined in the singing and clapping.
Dr. Seuss was celebrated in style and it seemed that all students enjoyed the planning, practicing and performing.
