Read Across America

On Friday, February 28th Marshville Elementary School celebrated Read Across America and the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Students and staff had the opportunity to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss book character. We even had some special readers in our school throughout the day.
Students learned about Dr. Seuss during media classes throughout the week. They took a look at his life and how he became an author through biographies. They learned about his wacky imagination and how he often got ideas for his books by just doodling pictures. Students also had the chance to hear lots of Dr. Seuss Books and become familiar with many of the different characters. Students learned that Dr. Seuss not only wanted children to have good and exciting books to read, he also wrote books that taught lessons and had good morals.
Read Across America is a program sponsored by The National Education Association (NEA). It is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2nd each year. This year the NEA celebrated its 17th year of Read Across America!
